Crack test of automotive components with UFD40

During the production of automotive components the metal forming is an elementary process step. Experience shows that automated testing has become indispensable in order to fulfill high quality expectations of the automobile industry to the components.

Forming processes such as a bending, pressing or hydraulic forming may cause cracks, particularly if the structure of the semi-finished material is not completely normalized. A good example is offered by welded tubes.

An automated monitoring can help, since the function of components with the presence of cracks is drastically affected and leads to a reduced life span.

No supplier can afford the recall of thousands of components and certainly not regarding the consequences in the customer relationship.

UFD40 makes a crack test of the components possible using the eddy current principle. The surface of the critical points is monitorized thereby by one or more eddy current probes.
